5 Family-Friendly Fall Destinations Near Nashville
“Happy Fall Ya’ll” or so my welcome mat says — even though it’s still 90 degrees outside. But truthfully, we are just hitting the sweet spot here in Middle Tennessee, but it only lasts a few weeks (a month and a half if were lucky. The mornings are nice, the afternoons are hot and the evenings are pure magic. Personally my favorite time of the year.
Since Olive was born, I have made a point each year to make our Fall weekends all about visiting the local farms around Nashville. This list is comprised of ones that are affordable, kid forward, and for the vibes. Many of these spots run through the end of October (some into November), so there’s still plenty of time to make your own mini bucket list — even if the weather hasn’t quite caught up to the calendar yet.
1. Breeden’s Orchard — Mt. Juliet, TN
(A family-run orchard with small-town charm and sweet fall vibes)
Breeden’s has become a must-do for us each fall. There’s no entrance fee to hang out on the property, which makes it such an easy (and affordable) weekend stop. They’ve set up a little mud kitchen and a few play areas for kids, and my daughter could spend hours there pretending to “cook” with sticks and apple peels. You can even feed apple cores to the goats — for free!
Of course, we always make a point to support the local business while we’re there. Their market is stocked with cider slushes, donuts, fudge, and plenty of seasonal goodies. Inside, you’ll find shelves of local jams, honey, and gifts — the kind of place you never leave empty-handed.
Just a heads up: they sometimes sell out of their best treats on busy weekend days, so it’s worth going earlier if you can.
Family Tip: Bring a picnic blanket and make an afternoon of it — there’s plenty of space to spread out and relax. check their social media for pop-up events like pizza nights or vendor markets.

2. Walden Pumpkin Farm — Smyrna, TN: Opening Day September 26
(Pumpkins, hayrides, and funnel cakes — what more could you need?)
Walden Pumpkin Farm is as “Tennessee fall” as it gets. It’s packed with everything from hayrides and a corn maze to animals, fresh produce, and classic fair food. My daughter loved the corn pit (and I loved the photo ops).
It’s one of those places you could literally spend an entire afternoon — tiring out the kids, having a sweet treat, and ending the day with a pumpkin under your arm and dirt on your shoes.
Family Tip: Bring cash for small vendors and food stands. Admission is free; activities and treats are pay-as-you-go.

3. Cheekwood Harvest — Nashville, TN: September 19 - November 1
(Pumpkin houses, mums, and magic tucked right inside the city)
Cheekwood is one of those places that’s just as beautiful for adults as it is fun for kids. Their annual Cheekwood Harvest transforms the gardens into a colorful fall wonderland — with thousands of mums, the iconic Pumpkin Village, and a whimsical scarecrow trail that little ones love to explore.
Go early to beat the crowds, pack a snack, and make a slow morning of it.
Family Tip: Weekday mornings are your best bet for shorter lines and shade for stroller walks.
4. Lucky Ladd Farms — Eagleville, TN: September 16 - October 31
(A full-day fall adventure just outside the city)
Lucky Ladd is a staple in Middle Tennessee for families — and for good reason. With over 60 attractions including slides, a petting zoo, pony rides, and a corn maze, it’s basically a fall festival that runs for weeks.
If your kids are a little older or just have endless energy, this one’s worth the drive. Plan to spend the day, and don’t skip the apple cider donuts on your way out.
Family Tip: Buy tickets online early, especially for weekends — and wear comfy shoes.
5. Gentry Farm — Franklin, TN: September 26 - November 1
(Low-key fun for littles in one of the prettiest spots near Nashville)
For a slower-paced outing, Gentry Farm is perfect. It’s a family-owned working farm with wagon rides, farm animals, and a mini corn maze that’s just the right size for toddlers. It’s less commercial than some of the bigger farms, but that’s what makes it special. Personally my favorite, and if you wait to visit until the last weekend, their pumpkins go on sale.
It’s also set against the rolling hills of Franklin — so if you love those golden field photos, bring your camera.
Family Tip: Check their calendar before heading out — they sometimes close after rain.
Making the Most of Nashville’s “Summer-Adjacent” Fall
Fall in Nashville doesn’t mean bundling up (like at all) — and honestly, that’s part of the magic. You can still wear shorts in October, enjoy cider without shivering, and stay outside well into the evening. These mild days are perfect for families, especially with little ones who love being outdoors.
We try to hit a mix of spots each year — a big festival farm, a quiet orchard day, and something right in the city like Cheekwood. The balance keeps it fun without feeling repetitive (or expensive).
This year and every year, I find myself chasing that same feeling — warm sun, cool breeze, and a faint "mama" somewhere in the background as Olive is having a new experience she wants to share with me. This season, and these places are filled with many of these little markers that remind me how quickly the seasons shift and how precious it all is.
