German Style Waffles without Syrup!

Who would ever think that you could have waffles without syrup? No way!

But we did....

and they were better than any waffle I have ever had. They were so light and without the heavy syrup seemed to instantly melt away.

Get your kids to try these a few times without syrup and they'll probably ask for more! Our friend in Germany confirmed this is very close to her recipe, except she adds bits of apples to the mixture along with cinnamon and vanilla.

You can also find another UK version online (with gram measurements) but I needed the US metrics.

(I doubled this recipe to serve 5 and we had some leftover)

Combine and cook in waffle iron:

1 3/4 cup milk
1 3/4 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3 eggs
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup oil
3 eggs
* optional 1 lime or lemon peel grated

Serve with a sprinkling of powdered sugar (Azúcar Glass known down here).
